Lithium Race: Canada Reaches Record Numbers Of Electric Car Sales With 60% Quarterly Growth From 2015.

Electrek.

Electrek reports that Canada reaches the record numbers of electric car sales helped by the launch of Tesla Model X and strong Chevy Volt sales. Canada has now a fleet of more than 20,000 electric cars and this record in sales of EVs came with 60% growth from Q3 of the last year. An introduction of GM Bolt and Tesla Model 3 will drive this exponential growth further. Now Tesla has 2 models of its electric cars among 4 most popular EVs in Canada. Needless to say that Tesla Model S and X are the most expensive EVs even if they are the best what lithium technology can offer now. Electric Cars  priced below $40k and with over 200 miles range will change even this very positive picture dramatically. We are moving into the age of affordable electric cars which are better and cheaper than comparable ICE ones.

"GM Bolt is going live and you can configure your very own electric car which is priced below $40k and goes for 200 miles "Made in America". Well ... almost ... apart from the lithium batteries ...
This is the Energy rEVolution in action. Tesla Model 3 will take us even further in the fast lane to the mass market for electric cars. Solar power generation is beating record after record by cutting costs of installations. I do not think that Donald Trump will make the costly geopolitical mistake and will make China The Great instead of trying at least to run The U.S. as a business enterprise in the best sense of this term. Vote in Florida against anti-Solar law demonstrates that once you turned The Pyramid upside down you can't just stop it. We have the culmination of Information Revolution based on the Internet. We are moving now into The Energy rEVolution based on Distributed Energy Generation with Solar and Wind; and storage of Energy. The World Is Just Before The Internet. Centralized Energy Control No More. The first countries implementing it seriously will be driving the rest of 21st century to prosperity for their people. Read more."

The introduction of the Tesla Model X in Canada and consistently strong Chevy Volt sales helped the country reach record numbers of electric car sales during the last quarter. Canada now has a fleet of over 20,000 plug-in electric cars (BEV and PHEV) and added a record of over 3,300 electric cars in just the last quarter (July to September).

That’s 60% growth year over year.

Fleetcarma, a firm tracking Canada’s car fleet, published its Q3 2016 report highlighting the growth of electric vehicles in the country.
A few interesting tidbits include the fact that the Tesla Model X deliveries have surpassed Model S deliveries during the last quarter. Of course, Tesla’s backlog of reservations for the Model X helped and we should now have a better idea of the mix going forward.
Tesla has now 2 models in the top 4 EVs in Canada. The Chevy Volt is still the top seller by a wide margin and it had an unprecedented third quarter:monthly-sales-model-canada-q3-2016-e1478730399130
Fleetcarma reports:
“Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S sales continue to remain strong, as they are both sitting at 18% of the registered EVs in Canada as of September 30, 2016.”
That’s quite impressive considering that Tesla vehicles in Canada are now quite expensive thanks to the exchange rate. The Nissan LEAF has an MSRP of $32,698 CAD, equivalent to its US starting price, but the Model S now starts at $86,000 before incentives.
Nonetheless, Tesla is still selling as many Model S sedans as Nissan is selling LEAFs:

My home province of Quebec is still keeping its lead in EV adoption. Quebec is likely to keep its lead now that it is the first Canadian province to adopt a ZEV mandate. We should start to see more electric car models making it to the “belle province” over the next year and ahead of the start of the mandate.plugins-by-province-2016-q3
